The first film that ever frightened me

I figured I would start this blog off with the first film I remember watching as a child that scared the shit out of me.  I honestly couldn't guess how old I actually was.  I can say that I was probably watching TNT's Monster Vision or USA's Up All Night after my parents had gone to sleep.  When my imagination was at it's wildest and there were still horrors lurking in the dark just waiting to sneak up on me.  At this point in life I had only heard the lore about certain horror persona's and the films that accompanied them.  So when I saw they were playing a Friday the 13th film, I decided to turn out the lights and see if I had what it took to make it to Saturday the 14th.  To this day I clearly remember the creeping sense of dread I felt from the opening scene as a young Corey Feldman reprising his role as Tommy Jarvis hides in the bushes watching two guys digging up Jason's grave.  No matter how many times I told the characters (out loud) they shouldn't be doing that, they refused and got killed because of it.  So after I watch in horror as Jason kills the two grave digging idiots he then turns his attention to Tommy.  Now watching through my hands that are covering my face I tried telling Tommy to run.  He didn't listen either.  Good thing for him it was only a dream sequence.  I know that Friday 5 is one of the more disliked in the franchise because it turns out to be Roy the ambulance driver and not Jason.  I loved this film as a child and love it to this day.  I even met Corey Feldman at a tattoo and horror convention in Nashville and got to tell him about this experience and have him sign my Friday the 13th 4 poster.  Which I'll post about that whole experience at another time.  So there you have it.  Friday the 13th 5: A new beginning was the beginning of my love for the genre.  What film was the first to scare you as a child?
